Located about 10 km from Litovel, it was built in the 18th century in the very latest style of what we now consider to be early Braoque Classicism. Inside we can find a unique collection of Meissen porcelain and furniture in a range of historic styles. The stately home stands in the centre in a circular park and is reached from the four points of the compass along alleys of lime trees.
Cars and motorbikes exhibited at the museum are all roadworthy, or at least are being repaired to be fully functional. The floor space of 400 m² is occupied by a collection of vintage cars and bikes (Mercedes Benz, BMW and KdF), mostly from the 1930s, as well as many other period artefacts. The backdrops of old Olomouc catch the eye: a car repair shop with a petrol pump from the beginning of the 20th century, a country barn with a vintage car stashed beneath the straw and surrounded by the agricultural implements of our grandfathers. Display cabinets house model cars, historic tools and examples of old automobile technology.
The museum offers a chance to examine 50 horse-drawn carriages and sleighs, an exhibition of carriage lanterns, and many other interesting artefacts relating to this bygone means of transport. On display you will also find a unique array of Episcopal carriages, funeral carriages, carriages in their original condition and those being restored in the restoration workshop. Every aspect of the museum is accompanied by expert explanation, and there are sound and film projections to enrich the visitor experience. One interesting fact about the museum is that all of its carriages are in working order, and many of them can be spotted on a variety of occasions (film sets, important funerals, cultural events, etc.)
With an area of 19.6 km2, the park is crossed by the Velký kosíř Nature Trail and the Mánes Trail. The most important localities within the park are the Malý Kosíř Nature Reserve, Růžičkův Quarry National Nature Monument, Andělova Zmola Nature Reserve and the Studený Kout Nature Monument.
Part of the territory is also registered under the EU’s Natura 2000 network. Kosíř is also known for its archaeological finds - flint tools from the Paleolithic. The so-called Kosíř Venus (torso of a clay statue of a woman dating from the Neolithic) was found here. Also important are the remains of a fortified settlement near Varhany, several burial mounds, and lots of other finds.
The lookout tower has a stone-built ground floor and a wood-frame circular tower supporting a spiral staircase clad externally in metal sheeting. The upper platform is 25 m above the ground.
West of Slatinice is a promontory of the Bouzov Uplands, rising to the peak of Velký Kosíř, jokingly referred to as the “Hanácko Mont Blanc”.
This is a Gothic tower whose appearance today has been primarily transfigured by its Renaissance reconstruction in the 16th century, when the defensive character of the tower was adorned with black and white sgraffito. Currently, the inside of the tower is home to a permanent exhibition of the Regional Museum in Olomouc devoted to the archaeology of the municipality and the region.
In its pavilions and outdoor enclosures, the ZOO today looks after almost 300 species of animal and provides visitors with never-to-be-forgotten experiences. The stunning design of the bat pavilion, where bats frequently flying right over the heads of visitors, the free run enjoyed by the Japanese macaques and an aquarium with giant sharks – the biggest of its kind in the Czech Republic, make Olomouc ZOO one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the region.
This site has become one of the most popular tourist destinations and places of pilgrimage in the region. The municipality’s most important and dominant feature is the Baroque Basilica of the Visitation. This architectural jewel towers monumentally above the Olomouc landscape, and in the mixed woodlands that surround the church you can find Olomouc Zoo, stretching across more than 40 hectares.
Today we know of over 3.5 km of passages, of which approximately 800 metres have been opened up to the public.
Declared as a National Cultural Monument, Bouzov is one of the most beautiful castles in Moravia. The site is often used as a film set for directors filming costume dramas and fairy tales.
Famous landmarks, an historic town centre, places of pilgrimage and other interesting attractions make Olomouc a top destination for ever greater numbers of tourists. You can also find here the Holy Trinity Column to commemorate victims of the plague and now registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
